MOST of the candidates for President on the Republican side are afflicted with it, and some of the Democratic ones are, too, in varying degrees. It also afflicts hundreds of our Senators and Representatives in Congress. And in our state legislatures.

The affliction is BIGOTRY, plain and simple, and any candidate for public office who possesses that unacceptably-flawed and loathsome personality trait should be put on notice by the voters that being afflicted in that manner is a **deal-breaker** that makes him/her UNFIT for office.

Because the USA has been through that nightmare before, half a century ago. We should have **learned** from that! The victims were the blacks then, and today it’s girls/women, and gays. Isn’t it time for America to grow up, once and for all, and *reject* ALL forms of bigotry – forevermore?

My article’s FACTS that back this question:

http://apifar.blogspot.com/2007/10/have-you-ever-told-lie-key-talking.html
To “realangst” — Good response. As for my blog, I strive to make it quite different from most. By basing any opinions that it contains upon solid FACTS that no one has yet been able to disprove or refute. (And I *have* invited its detractors to attempt to do so. ALL of them, to date, have run away, instead.)
To “Chip Monk” — You would have gotten a “thumb’s-up” from me for your first comments, and a “thumb’s-down” for your later, Anti-Choice and Anti-gay ones. So I gave you neither. As for the comments, there’s a problem with Firefox if you’re using that. I invite you to try again with a different browser, and the comments function *should* work fine. Thanks.

Do you have a trait, an addiction, or a disorder that causes you suffering? If you were offered an instant, painless way to stop the OCD, ADD, depression, panic attacks, addiction, angry outbursts, impatience, or shyness, would you want it? What if this treatment could wipe out a particularly traumatic memory for you?

This isn’t science fiction. Many of the disorders that were once considered to be in the domain of psychology and psychiatry are now treated as neurological problems or chemical imbalances. MRIs are giving us a window into the mind/brain that is creating a proliferation of treatment options never before imagined.

In a recent article, researchers described implanting a pacemaker deep into the brain of a severely depressed woman. Minutes later, a smile lit up her face. By her own description, it had been twelve years since she had smiled. Other people suffering from depression were also implanted with the device and the results look promising, not only for depression, but for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

If a small electrical device sending out intermittent pulses can, within minutes, literally put a smile on the face of someone who has felt emotionally dead for years, what does this have to say about our personalities? How much of how we identify ourselves is really our Self?

As children, we are often compared to others who share our genes. “She has her mother’s eyes.” “That pout is just like his uncle’s.” “She’s stubborn, just like…” We learn to identify our Self by our traits, which we usually feel at least somewhat stuck with. By the time we are working adults, many of us have further identified ourselves (or our employers have) through personality profiles such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. We know whether we are ESTJs (Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judging) or INFPs (Introversion, iNtuition, Feeling, Perceiving). Discovering our personality style can help us understand our motivations and quirks as well as help us get along with others. However, is it possible to over-identify with our labels?

Perhaps you have researched the Sufi-derived Enneagram. If so, you know “your number.” For example, a Four on the Enneagram is the Romantic, Aesthete, Individualist. According to the Enneagram, as quoted by Wikipedia, “Fours embrace individualism and are often profoundly creative and intuitive and at best they are very humane. However, they have a habit of withdrawing to internalize, searching desperately inside themselves for something they never find and creating a spiral of depression.” This may be very helpful information for a Four. But might a Four (or any other “Number”) take this data and invalidate other aspects of him/her Self?

If a little electronic device could be implanted in a Four and the depression circumvented, is the person no longer a Four? Was the depression part of this person’s personality or was it a byproduct of a “misfiring” of the brain that required only some high-tech tweaking to correct it? Would the Four miss aspects of the depression? Did it fuel his/her creativity or intuition? Is the Four’s capacity for empathy/humanity a result of a deep understanding of what it means to suffer? Would others miss something in the Four? Would some of life’s lessons be lost along with the depression? Does growth require suffering?

If you are waiting for me to answer these questions, you will have to wait longer because I’m still finding more questions to ask! If a shock from a tiny electrode can instantly lift years of depression or alleviate the symptoms of OCD, it becomes compelling to question what “free will” means. Is our Self simply the sum total of our brain’s synapses? If these synapses are altered, how does this impact our sense of Self? What do you want to change about yourself? Are you willing to risk letting go of your former sense of Self to make the changes?

If depression or rage or shyness can be “zapped,” might this information encourage us to let go of our prior judgments about others’ behaviors or even our own? Maybe for all our best efforts, some of us are simply more prone to being quick to anger or too shy to make eye contact or too lacking in self-esteem to give ourselves a pep talk or feel inspired by affirmations. Maybe laziness or self-centeredness is built in.

What if you were just one quick fix away from being “cured” of any of these “flaws”? If flipping a switch eliminated the need for therapy, reading self-help books, meditating, taking anti-depressants and/or anti-anxiety meds, or having to risk your health, relationships, job, and freedom because you self-medicate with drugs and alcohol; that is, if a zap could eliminate your suffering and, most importantly, make you happy, would you utilize it?

Brain pacemaker research doesn’t lead me to answers to these questions but it does lead me to realizing the value of paying attention to my thoughts. Every day, we consciously or unconsciously choose our thoughts, which then trigger our emotions, which either change or reinforce our beliefs, all contributing to what we call our personality.

The Buddhists teach us that no enemy can harm us as much as our own worst thoughts. The opposite is perhaps also true: No one can help us as much as our own best thoughts. Our thoughts, whether stimulated by a machine or by a sunset, by biofeedback or by listening to music, influence our perceptions, our identification with our personality, and our sense of happiness. Implant or no implant, instant fix or years of meditation, therapy or medication, exercise endorphins or affirmations, if we pay closer attention to our thoughts, allow compassion for our own and others’ feelings, and question the authority of our beliefs, hopefully, we will find both meaning and delight in discovering our truer Self.

Designing your Own Personality  Introduction

Before continuing with the following steps on designing your own personality, spend a few minutes thinking of the personalities of people in your life. I have some close friends that I know whenever I see them they will cheer me up because they are happy and very positive. On the other hand, I also have friends that are close, but I can always predict how they will react in certain situations and it is usually in a negative manner.

I think all of you can relate to my situation of having friends who you love to be around and other friends who you do care about, but make you feel â??drainedâ?? when you spend time with them.

The whole point of this post and personality development in general is to develop the characteristics you want to have rather than the ones youâ??ve been conditioned with.

Following are four steps that I have personally used  to help bring about a change in my own personality that have allowed me to literally be the type of person I want to be.

1.Be Honest With Your Current Traits

There are 16 primary personality traits as under:

1.Reserved vs Outgoing

2.Less intelligent vs More intelligent

3.Affected by feeling vs Emotionally stable

4.Submissive vs Dominant

5.Serious vs Happy to Lucky

6.Expedient vs Conscientious

7.Timid vs Venturesome

8.Tough-minded vs Sensitive

9.Trusting vs Suspicious

10.Practical vs Imaginative

11.Forthright vs Shrewd

12.Self-assured vs Apprehansive

13.Conservative vs Experimenting

14.Group dependant vs Self-sufficient

15.Uncontrolled vs Controlled

16.Relaxed vs Tense

How would you describe yourself right now? What do you think is your personality trait ?Personally I think I have quite a split personality. At times I can be quiet, I keep myself to myself and Iâ??m very considerate towards the feelings of others. At other times, I can be quite crazy, highly outgoing and literally oblivious to what people think and I donâ??t really care.

Itâ??s important that you are honest with your current traits so you can decide what you want to change. The position I would like to take my life requires me to be considerate to others so I wouldnâ??t change that, but I also want to have other characteristics which donâ??t necessarily compliment being considerate.

If youâ??ve just spent the last few days in a negative spiral, cursing everything and thinking the world owes you a favour, then donâ??t define yourself as someone who is happy and positive all the time. You may be happy and positive some of the time, but you should be aware of the traits you arenâ??t so proud of as well as the ones that you are. Honest self-assessment is key to this step of the process.

2. Define the Qualities You Want to Have

Because this is all about you being who you want to be, itâ??s time to pick the qualities that you want to have. I have to stress that is important that you do not go overboard on this part of the process and pick tons of qualities that you desire. It is far easier to focus on around 5 core qualities you would like to have at a time rather than a list of 20 or more.

Some of the qualities that I picked for myself were:

1.     Independent

2.     Honest

3.     Positive

4.     Fun / Good sense of humour

5.     Trustworthy

It is important you pick qualities that you want to have, rather than qualities you think people want you to have. I put honest and trustworthy on my list because they matter to me personally, but I also put positive because life is a toss-up between that and negative. Most people will say they want to be positive yet they unconsciously love drama in their lives, so really think about this before making your list.

3. Visualise Yourself for 21 Days with These Qualities

The 21-day format has been without a doubt the most amazing thing I have came across in my life. Even though it is featured in the book â??Psycho Cyberneticsâ?? by Maxwell Maltz, I canâ??t find any evidence  of someone who had put a plan in place for this and implemented it.

This third part of the process will involve you visualising yourself in any situation having the qualities that you want to have. There are a few things to remember during visualisations and the 21-day challenge:

You must do this for 21 days without missing a day

You need to visualise yourself being how you want to be in terms of the end result, not the process

Your visualisations need to be as real as possible  – notice smells, colours, small details and sounds from your imagined environment

To give an example, If I want the quality of  positivity to become natural, then each day I must spend a couple of minutes visualising myself being positive. For example I might visualise myself, as vividly as possible, being positive after an event that most people would struggle to remain happy about. I am aware of the fact that this idea will sound very silly if you have never tried it before.

However, it is scientifically proven that our nervous system can not tell the difference between a real event and one that is vividly imagined. The 21 days that you will do this process for is enough time for new connections and pathways to form in your brain, thus â??imprintingâ?? your desired result – sort of like a habitual auto-response.

4. Act as If They Are Present

This is quite self explanatory, but in everyday life see if you can act as if your desired qualities are already present. If you want to be positive, then be positive, if you wish to be honest then start implementing that in your life. This will get much, much easier as you get closer to the end of the 21 day challenge and this starts to become habitual.

Conclusion

The whole point of this article and Personality Development in general is to develop the characteristics and traits you want to have rather than the ones youâ??ve been conditioned with.

ok so i’ve been reading an article about birth order and personality traits. i’m just trying to figure out which birth order i should consider myself. I have a sister who is 18 years my senior. when i was born she was living in the house for a couple or 3 years. i dont actually remember her living in the house but i have pictures. the deal is when people ask me if i’m an only child i usually say yes without thinking, then i remember i have a sister. so i’m basically trying to figure out am I effectively an only child or should i pay more attention to personality traits of second borns?

Any ideas?

If someone with this disorder read an article on the specific traits of the disorder would they disregard it as garbage? How is this disorder typically treated, if the person is unable/unwilling to accept the fact that they suffer from it?

Are you a business owner? Or perhaps looking to be one? Then this article is for you.

There are many factors that contribute to a fantastic franchise. One of the most crucial is the people who run the franchise. Successful individuals in the franchising field have been found to exhibit personal traits which can be categorised into four (4) major groups. These groups comprise leadership, interpersonal, decision making and time management skills.

Leadership Skill

When it comes to leadership, being able to influence people effectively is key. A leader must be able to take charge of a situation and express himself/herself directly, and apply appropriate force when necessary. He/she can listen to perspectives of others in a reasonably objective manner and make necessary adjustments in his/her approach. He can still be aggressive to reinforce his/her position when opposition is encountered, without being too demanding. He/she is motivated to persuade others and derives satisfaction from winning people over to his/her point of view. He/she can take most setbacks in stride.

Interpersonal Skill

He/she has strong service motivation which encourage customer activity. Naturally, he/she is engaging and personable and can develop rapport quickly with others which makes it easy for others to get to know him/her. He/she puts in time and effort needed to develop long-term relationships. He/she networks with people, reaches out to others where the chance arises, thus creating effective alliances and teams. He/she may be sceptical at times, but regardless would likely to be viewed as supportive and responsive.

Decision Making Skill

Being a practical problem solver,  he/she relies mainly on accumulated knowledge, common sense and experiences rather than on “gut instinct”. He/she is also a calculated risk-taker who weighs both the advantages and disadvantages of a proposed solutions before moving implementing his/her recommendation. Decisions have been given much thought and reflect mature judgement. He/she may not be a highly abstract thinker, but will listen to input of others and be open to new ideas, yet be conscientious in gathering the necessary facts to support his/her decision.

Time Management Skill

Successful franchising people demonstrate a sense of structure and organisation in their  approach. They are sensitive to organisational guidelines and requirements and operate by the rules, without coming across as rigid or legalistic. They have the most important details in hand, and adopt a systematic approach to manage priorities and daily demands. They switch gears when necessary while remaining focused on the basic plan. These qualities will support him/her in managing processes as well as in managing people.
